1. What the AI does
- It interviews you. An AI interviewer asks the employer's questions out loud, listens to your answers through speech recognition, and asks follow-up questions, like a first-round interview.
- It records and transcribes the interview. Your voice and camera are recorded, and also your screen if the interview asks you to share it. The audio is turned into a written transcript.
- It drafts an assessment for the employer. After the interview, an AI reads the transcript and scores your answers against a rubric the employer set for this job. Each score is backed by your own words from the interview. If there is not enough evidence to judge something, it is left unscored rather than guessed.
2. What is assessed
The employer chooses which parts the interview includes. Only the parts in your invitation are assessed:
- Experience and behaviour: what you did in past situations, how, and why, judged against the competencies in the employer's rubric (for example problem solving, ownership or communication).
- Spoken English: an estimated CEFR level (A1–C2) based on the range, accuracy and coherence of your English and how you interact, supported by simple measures such as speaking pace and pauses. It is an estimate, not a certificate. Accent is not penalised.
- Technical problem-solving: how you reason through and explain a technical problem.
- Design work: how you explain your design work and decisions. If you share your screen, the AI uses what is shown to understand what you are talking about. It assesses your reasoning, not visual polish or what software you use.
3. What is not assessed
- No facial analysis, facial recognition or emotion recognition. Your camera video is recorded so a person at the employer can watch it; no AI analyses your face, expressions or body language.
- Not your appearance, background, room, age, gender, ethnicity, nationality, disability, personality or "confidence".
- Not your accent or pronunciation, except as part of how clearly you communicate in the English part.
- Not transcription errors: a misheard name or technical term is not held against you.
4. How the results are used
The report goes to the company that invited you. A person at that company reviews it and makes every decision. The AI never decides whether you move forward or are hired, and employers agree not to use AI scores as the only basis for a decision. Reviewers can play back the exact moments behind each score, so they can check the AI's reading against what you actually said.
Your interview is shared only with the company that invited you. If you tick the optional box on the consent screen, InstaTalent may also show it to other employers you apply to; you can withdraw that at any time. We do not use your interview to train AI models.
5. Your choices
- Interview with a person instead. On the invitation page, choose "I'd prefer an interview with a person, or need an accommodation". We tell the company, and they will contact you about an alternative. Choosing this is not held against you by InstaTalent.
- Accommodations. If you have a disability or another reason the AI interview format does not work for you (for example a speech or hearing impairment), use the same option to tell the company what you need, or email privacy@instatalent.dev and we will pass it on.
- Human review. You can ask the company for a person to review your assessment, explain your view, and contest the result.
- Saying no. You do not have to agree. If you do not consent, the interview does not start and nothing is recorded.
6. How long your interview is kept, and how to delete it
- The full recording is deleted automatically 180 days after the interview, unless the company has set a different period.
- The transcript, report and short evidence clips are kept until the company deletes them or you ask for deletion.
- To delete your interview, email privacy@instatalent.dev from the address your invitation was sent to (or contact the company). We delete the recording, transcript and report, and ask anyone we shared them with to do the same, within 30 days.
7. Who is responsible
The company that invited you decides how the interview is used in its hiring and is responsible for your data in that process. InstaTalent (BrightSpheres LLC) runs the interview on its behalf. The types of service providers we use are listed on our Sub-processors page. More detail is in our Privacy Policy.
8. If you joined the InstaTalent Talent Network
- InstaTalent runs your interview itself, not a company, and is responsible for your data. Questions are drawn at random from a question bank for your role, and the AI asks follow-up questions about your own answers.
- A person on our team reviews every interview before a profile is added to the directory. The AI never decides; our reviewer approves, asks for a retake, or explains why a profile wasn't added.
- You see your feedback: your strengths, areas to develop, an estimated English level and a band for each skill.
- Companies see an anonymised profile only if you consent and publish it. Your name, contact details, CV and full recording go only to a company whose introduction you accept. You can unpublish at any time.
- Retakes: you can take the interview again once every 90 days per role; the newest interview replaces the previous one.
